This was the second march Dr. Roque, his organization “Together We Can” and the people of West New York held on March 24, 2009. This was the first time Dr. Count Wiley participated; I am right behind them. At the time I was Roque’s campaign manager. The guy in the hat Dr. Roque is pointing at is Cosmo Cirillo, who graduated from High Tech High School with my daughter in 2005. He is very active in WNY politics, and has always been loyal to former mayor Sal Vega. At the time Roque became very popular but no politician gave him much of a chance. After he won he was surrounded by many “friends” -especially politicians- and he became a member of a new “family” who took pictures with him, happy to rub elbows with the mayor-doctor. Three years later the two doctors are political enemies. I am not involve in WNY politics. Dr. Roque has been indicted by a Grand Jury, and the conditions in WNY have not improved. Politics: go figure.
Whatever happens I will always respect the two doctors who stood up against the most powerful machine in Hudson County. Whatever happens, this picture shows that Wiley was by his side when not too many people were. It is also a snapshot of Roque’s determination in his quest for power. Sadly, Dr. Roque will face trial in a Federal Court soon.
