West New York recall group files amended challenge to town clerk’s rejection of recall petitions

Nationally recognized attorney Arthur Neiss leads the court battle for Dr. Roque's Together We Can organization

WEST NEW YORK – Dr. Felix E. Roque and his “Together We Can” organization will soon get to state their case in court.

The group, which has sought to remove Mayor Silverio “Sal” Vega and the four other commissioners from office since May of last year, filed an amended complaint against Town Clerk Carmela Riccie.

“Tyranny, suppression and dictatorship is coming to an end,” said Roque, who is positive that his group will be able to prove there are enough valid signatures to proceed with a recall election.

Roque, who run for mayor in a recall election, and his organization have held a number of demonstrations protesting the sharp rise in property taxes in the town.

On Dec. 21, Riccie halted Roque’s recall bid when she invalidated hundreds of signatures on the recall petitions, leaving the petitions well short of the required 5,256 valid signatures to continue.
