Human Rights Report on Georgia, for those who care about democracy.

Russian troops have violated Human Rights in Georgia causing havoc among civilians. As the world watches more or less complaisant, feeling a conflict so far away is also gar away from them, yet this aggression could be the beginning of another Cold War, threatening the free world. It is interesting how most democracies and their free press have euphemised the terrible situation in Georgia, and how many of the so called pro-democratic bloggers turned their backs on this war, some of them constantly complaining when human rights violations pertain to the cause they claim to defend, in some instances boycotting the Beijing Olympics Games the same way they close their eyes to the human rights abuses committed an expansionist army supported by drunken militias thirsty of blood, looting, pillaging and raping a democratic Georgia. It’s two fold hypocrisy, convenient cowardice. All freedom loving people should raise their voices in the name of the democracy they enjoy, the democracy that allows them to chose whose or what human rights should they defend. Here is the Human Rights Watch Reports describing the situation in democratic Georgia.

US demands Russian troop pull-out
President Saakashivili and the US secretary of state give a news conference

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice has demanded that Russian forces withdraw from Georgia immediately.

It comes after Georgia’s president signed an EU-brokered ceasefire deal, after nearly five hours of talks.

In angry comments at a news briefing in Tbilisi, President Mikhail Saakashvili said his country would never accept the loss of any of its territory.

The crisis began when Georgia attacked the breakaway region of South Ossetia a week ago sparking Russian intervention.

President Saakashvili said he had signed the six-point ceasefire agreement – brokered by France – but that it was not a permanent solution.

Russian tanks advance on Georgian towns: Saakashvili
Russia Ignores Warning Signals fron The West:
THE OCCUPATION CONTINUES!

TBILISI (Reuters) – Russian tanks have moved on two more towns in central Georgia, widening their “occupation”, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said on Friday.

Saakashvili’s claim could not be independently verified and Russian Presidency and Defence Ministry officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

Saakashvili said the tanks had moved to the towns of Khashari and Borjomi southwest of breakaway South Ossetia, where Russian troops and artillery massed over the past week during fighting with Georgian forces.

“We now have an increasing area of Russian occupation of our territory,” Saakashvili told reporters hours after signing a ceasefire agreement brought by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

  1. Rafael, I need to ask you a question please. Why do you place your posts under Cubanology for? I’ve noticed this for a while already and it has interfered quite a bit on the google search engine. When anybody does a search for “Cubanology” they get information from your blog, which has nothing to do with Cubanology, you never noticed that? Please take Cubanology off from your post tags, it is disrupting my website.

  2. I’ll Take it off out of courtesy since the last thing I want to do is ‘intefere” with your site. As far as I know you didn’t INVENT the word Cubanology. If you did you should register it under your name so nobody else uses except YOU. I can give you the number of a good lawyer who would work that out for you.

  3. I didn’t invent the term “Cubanology” and neither did you but if you do a search on “Cubanology” my website pops up because the name of my website is Cubanology.com and that name, I sure do own and it’s registered under my name. Also when you do a search on “Cubanology” your Blog shows up also and why, because you tag your articles (2008, Cuban-Americans, Cubanology, Cubanos, Cubiches, Current Events) Oh, so you are telling me that you placed Cubanology there because of the term “Cubanology” and not because of Cubanology.com? In that case, I’m sorry. Yeah and please, forward me the name of a good lawyer, I don’t know of any.

  4. Here: call Gilberto García at (201) 854-4545. I used the term Cubanology since I started this blog before I knew of your existence. I thank you fpr putting my blog in yours and for the work you do with the Cuban-American Blogs, since this is a sensitive issue for you just take me out of your blogroll. Good luck in the future!
