Six more hurt in bull-run festival
A PACK of bulls injured six people yesterday in the latest run through crowded streets during Pamplona’s week long San Fermin Festival .
The run featured six massive miura bulls, traditionally the largest and fastest-running fighting bulls bred in Spain .
Many runners had to dive for cover as the herd approached during the 850m stretch from corral to bullring, some suffering crush injuries .
Doctor Ignacio Yurss of Navarra Hospital said six people were taken to Pamplona’s two hospitals . None were gored.
The last person to die from a goring was 22-year-old American Matthew Tassio in 1995.
The miuras taking part in the run weighed between 615kg and 700kg .
The festival in this ancient northern city dates back to the late 16th century . So far this year, about half a dozen runners have been gored, none seriously. Doctor Yurss said a 26-year-old Colombian man gored on Saturday was recovering well after surgery on two wounds in a buttock.
