Torres-Holt II: A Knockdown Worth 1,000 Words!

SHOWTIME MAIN EVENT STUNNING!
Union City, NJ- During a weekend in which other sports rewrote history with excruciating hours of rain impediments and high-strung drama at Wimbledon , it felt comforting to take solace in the fact that boxing has never been particularly fond of teasing its fans. Nor was this weekend, when junior welterweight could’ve-been Ricardo Torres (32-2, 28 KOs) knocked down Kendall Holt (24-2, 13 KOs) twice in about 40 seconds, only to relinquish the WBO junior welterweight (140 lbs.) title in a minute and a second, an exception. In those 61 seconds these two fighters left more in the ring than most do in 12 rounds, and gave us more to talk about than some give us in an entire career.

UNDERESTIMATING THE LESS GLAMOUROUS
The aforementioned introduction may appear to hyperbolize a bit what boxing fans were privy to this past Saturday. After all, many must think, neither Torres nor Holt are particularly noteworthy in their division save for holding one of the seemingly millions of title belts, and with Ricky Hatton (44-1, 31 KOs) and Paulie Malignaggi’s (25-1, 5 KOs) Beckham-esque hair floating around- and even the mouthwatering prospect of cosmic hero and triple threat (boxer, actor, singer) Manny Pacquiao (47-3-2, 35 KOs) stopping by the 140 for a cameo appearance- the humble “Mochuelo” and his sparring cohort seem like small fries by comparison.
