Pavlik too strong for Lockett! Juan Manuel López New Super Featherweight Champion!

Atlantic City, June 7, 2008. Kelly Pavlik (34-0-30KO’s) forced Gary Lockett (30-2-21Ko’s) on one knee twice in the first round, after landing devastating right hands, breaking his nose and severely bruising his face. All in one round. The next was a festival of punches: left hooks, uppercuts, and the lethal straight right. The fight was stopped by Lockett’s corner at the 1:40 mark of the second. Impressive performance by the WBC WBO Middleweight, only Joe Calzaghe can pose a challenge against Pavlik at this weight. He’s clearly a light heavy weight fighting at 160. Sensational performance by a fighter who seems to be improving one fight at a time.

A new WBO Super featherweight champion was crowned tonight at the Atlantic City’s Boardwalk Hall as Juan Manuel López (22-0-20KO’s) scored an impressive KO against Daniel Ponce de León (34-2-30KO’s). López opened up from the first with right and left hooks flooring De León twice to have the fight stopped 40 seconds before the bell rang within the first.
