From the Editor’s desk

I will like to congratulate Brian Stack on his resounding victory last June 5th for the Democratic Senatorial Elections. It was just a fair response from the voters of the 33rd District to Stack’s untiring work on behalf of his constituency.

The outstanding vote that Stack received was also a reflection on his opponent’s dirty campaign ads and tactics. Thanks to his hard work, Union City is a better place to live. The UCPD, once totally politicized, is now one of the best in the country. I can attest to that myself and I want to take this opportunity to thank on behalf of the residents of Harrison Place, especially my parents, Chief Everett, Sergeant Luster, Supervisor Emilio Gonzalez, Police Officers Cartagena and Prendes, as well as all the UCPD for assisting in such an efficient and professional manner to a quality of life issue in our block.

Sergeant Luster and Supervisor Gonzales have taken an extremely professional and human approach to the well-being of our block, especially our senior citizens. I have never met more competent and community oriented people.

The UCPD cares about the issues that our Mayor cares about. It’s easy to criticize him but no one in public office in this city has done what he has done for the people of Union City. As a senator, the people of the 33rd District will realize what we have in Union City. Stack is an authentic leader who takes action on the matters that affect people. He gets hundreds of calls a day, but you can be sure he’ll call you back no matter how many meetings he holds on a daily basis. He may not get back to you the same day but he will, and more importantly he’ll be hands on the issue that affects you.

Some people forget when this was a city where historical cannons were mysteriously lost from parks, the streets were dirty, the parks were a mess, the possibility of progress was non-existent, there was not enough space or programs for young people to concentrate their energies in a positive way, our schools were struggling with low scores in standardized tests, and political appointees where at the order of the day- qualifications second hand.

Some people forget when this city was at the hands of arrogant politicians who would answer your phone call only on election time.

Stack has changed all that and more. He has proven he cares.

People who are professional critics or haters will always find a reason to express their own frustrations through someone else’s success. Stack is on the right path and deserves our full support and recognition.
